Carrageenan is a plant-based polysaccharide extracted from red seaweed, most commonly Irish moss (Chondrus crispus). Used for centuries in traditional skincare, today it’s prized in clean formulations for its gentle thickening, smoothing, and moisture-binding properties.

Yes, carrageenan has been misunderstood—mostly due to confusion with a different compound called poligeenan, which is not used in haircare. We use only food-grade, undegraded carrageenan, processed gently and applied topically, where it stays on the surface of skin and hair.

Studies confirm this form is non-sensitizing, non-toxic, and entirely safe in the low concentrations we use. In other words, we trust it because we know it.
