Where It Began

This story starts more than eighty years ago with Debbie's grandmother, who owned The Looking Glass salon in Salt Lake City. She understood something that would shape our family: when women feel cared for, something inside them is restored.

Her son, Deb's father, carried that belief from the salon into the laboratory. He and his wife created the Ondaé haircare line, using carrageenan from red seaweed that bonded with hair's protein structure instead of just coating it. His formulas were built on gentle science and honest care.

Thirty years ago, we sat through his training classes and fell in love with that science. That foundation stayed with us.

Over 80 Years of History

We're Dave and Debbie. Life took us in other directions, and Ondaé eventually left the market. Years later, as our own hair was changing, we were on a mission to clean up what we put on our bodies, but nothing worked like that original formula. Drugstore brands stripped our hair. "Natural" products left it unmanageable.

So we asked him to bring it back. Not for business. For ourselves.

We rebuilt those formulas using only EWG-safe ingredients, honoring more than eighty years of family knowledge while meeting today's clean beauty standards.

The Mission We’re Building Toward

From the beginning, we knew Maralea Sun needed to be about more than helping women feel good again. We want women to feel cared for, supported, and seen, especially those rebuilding their lives after experiences no one should ever have to endure.

Our long-term goal is to contribute a portion of our profits to women’s shelters, beginning with The Dove Center in St. George, Utah. These organizations give women and their children safety, stability, and the chance to step forward with renewed strength.

We’re not a big company yet. We’re still growing, still learning. But this commitment is part of who we are, and as Maralea Sun becomes sustainable, supporting these spaces will become a permanent part of our mission.
